About this event

Please note this event is invite only.

The climate crisis is reshaping economies, ecosystems, and societies worldwide. Brazil has a pivotal role in shaping responses to these changes. With its vast ecosystems, renewable energy potential, and innovation in regenerative agriculture, the country can provide solutions to urgent global challenges. Yet it is also the fifth-largest emitter and one of the most climate-vulnerable nations. Philanthropy, while representing less than 2% of global giving (ClimateWorks Foundation, Funding Trends 2023), plays a unique role in advancing climate action. Its comparative advantage lies in taking risks, moving early, supporting social movements, and shaping narratives in ways that public and private finance cannot. As the world moves through the decisive decade for climate action, philanthropy must seize its role and scale to meet the moment and reimagine its role for the future.

The Future of Climate Philanthrophy

Philanthropy is undergoing a significant shift. The future of climate philanthropy is expected to be:

  • More catalytic – moving beyond grants into blended finance, concessional capital, and partnerships that unlock billions in public and private investment.
  • Closer with Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and frontline movements, ensuring that those most affected by climate change lead solutions.
  • More narrative-driven – investing in media, culture, and storytelling to align climate action with aspirations for prosperity, equity, and national development, especially considering the vicious cycle between the climate crisis and social crises.
  • More global South-centered – with rising philanthropic leadership in Brazil, Africa, India, and Southeast Asia reshaping the agenda toward equity and justice.

Objectives:

  • Present numbers and statistics on climate philanthropy, including in Brazil.
  • Position philanthropy as a driver of climate ambition.
  • Showcase scalable, replicable solutions in forests, food, energy, and resilience.
  • Discuss strategic areas that the philanthropic support should focus on to deliver climate implementation.
  • Mobilize new and diverse funders to close Brazil’s multi-billion-dollar climate finance gap.
  • Build a shared philanthropic agenda ahead of the 2026 elections, ensuring climate action continuity in the face of political uncertainty.
  • Strengthen alliances across philanthropy, government, and business to accelerate climate action.
  • Dissemination of the report: Repositioning Brazil as a Global Hub for Climate Solutions.

In sum, Philanthropy’s convening power and long-term investment in democracy and civic participation will be essential to ensure that climate remains central and a priority beyond the 2026 elections.
