Cate is a Partner in Bain and Company’s Washington, DC office. She advises clients on ESG and energy transition strategy across industries, with a primary focus on energy and industrial clients. Prior to Bain, Cate served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Mission Possible Partnership, a JV focused on decarbonization of heavy industry and transport, and was part of the leadership team at the Rocky Mountain Institute, where she founded their methane abatement program. Cate also has deep experience in the public sector: she spent ten years at the US Environmental Protection Agency, where she managed the oil and gas program of the Global Methane Initiative, was part of the Paris agreement negotiating team, developed greenhouse gas regulations for heavy industry, power and transport, and co-authored the annual US Inventory of GHG Emissions and Sinks. Cate is a co-author Pricing Carbon, a book assessing the performance of the European Union Emission Trading System, and previously served as committee staff in the US House of Representatives.
