In order to reverse climate change, the development of operations with net-negative carbon footprint should be accelerated. This is the mission of Puro.earth carbon removal marketplace.
Puro.earth have made CO2 sequestration comparable between different methods. Based on our marketplace rules and methodologies we have created verified digital tradable assets called CORCs (CO2 Removal Certificate). Those are traded in auctions that take place every two months.

The Basque Country has a long track record in the area of energy sustainability. Over the last 40 years the Basque government has developed a planned policy geared towards ensuring a high-quality, competitive and increasingly clean supply. This has enabled it to diversify the energy mix (entirely fossil-fuel dependent up to the late 1970s), by introducing natural gas and renewable energy sources. The region has now entirely eliminated the use of coal for energy purposes, and consumption of petroleum derivatives has been cut by 20 percentage points.
The Basque energy transition is continuing this policy of change towards a new sustainable model. The targets, which are set out in the government document “Energy Strategy for the Basque Country 2030” and developed by the energy agency Ente Vasco de la Energía, are in complete consonance with EU directives. It thus contributes to the global climate challenge by creating a sustainable energy system that guarantees the wellbeing of all members of society.
The challenges for the future Basque energy system also represent an opportunity for growth in the industrial sector; the change in model will enjoy full political support and be backed by innovative technological solutions to facilitate the paradigm shift required. This transformation in the energy system and transport models and a process of restructuring towards high-efficiency cities will open new market niches for business, based on new and innovating technological developments which will contribute to the change by generating knowledge, wealth and new forms of employment based on sustainability.

We must take giant leaps forward to avoid catastrophic climate change. Staying within a 2°C rise in warming demands radical changes to the way we currently live in cities – from how we use natural resources, materials and energy, to how we transform our built environment, our mobility, and the way we grow and consume food.
EIT Climate-KIC is Europe’s largest public-private partnership established to catalyse systemic change through innovation. Our Theory of Change is focused on creating human agency across our community to help change systems, through exploration, experimentation and demonstrations to enable viable alternatives at scale.
We work across whole value chains, applying leverage through finance, skills, and technology to influence behaviour, policy, governance, and market structures to catalyse deep decarbonisation and climate resilience in European societies and beyond.
