As the world grapples with mounting challenges such as food insecurity, climate change, and water scarcity, COP30 in Brazil will unite diverse stakeholders from across the agrifood value chain. As a part of the Sustainable Innovation Forum, this year’s forum will be a vital platform to foster new models of multi stakeholder collaboration to scale climate smart agriculture, strengthen water resilience, and champion nature positive, inclusive solutions. Aligned with COP30’s core goals of climate justice and sustainable development, the Summit will accelerate innovation and policy action for a more secure, equitable, and resilient global food future.
The Agri-Food Systems Summit brought together Institutional Investors, Government Officials, Business Leaders, UN Dignitaries, NGOs, amongst other leading agri-food stakeholder together.



A.G. Kawamura is a third generation produce grower and shipper from Orange County, California. From 2003 to 2010 he served as the Secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. He is founding co-chair of Solutions from the Land (solutionsfromtheland.org), a nationally recognized non-profit that is developing innovative and sustainable climate smart collaborations for 21st century agriculture. He serves on multiple boards and advisory committees including the UNEP Farmers Major Group Facilitators Committee; Farm Foundation Board; Western Growers Board and former Chair; Southern California Water Coalition, Executive Committee.
For over 45 years Mr. Kawamura has pursued a lifelong goal to work towards an end to hunger and malnutrition. Locally, he is founding chair of Solutions For Urban Ag (SFUA.org). He has worked closely with Regional Food Banks and stakeholders to create dynamic urban ag projects that focus on nutrition, hunger, education and advanced food systems. As a progressive farmer, Mr. Kawamura has a lifetime of experience working within the shrinking rural and urban boundaries of Southern California. A.G. graduated with a BA from UC Berkeley and was a member of Class XX of the Calif. Ag Leadership Program.



| Bruce is founder & President of the Good Food Institute, a global network of nonprofit science-focused think tanks with affiliates in the U.S., India, Israel, Brazil, Singapore, and Europe (UK, Germany, & EC). GFI works on alternative protein policy, science, and corporate engagement – to accelerate the production of plant-based and cultivated meat in order to bolster the global protein supply while mitigating climate change, reducing agricultural land use, reducing pandemic and AMR risk, and improving food security. Bruce has penned op-eds for the Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy, Nature Food and other publications, and has appeared on podcasts including Making Sense (Sam Harris), Ezra Klein, Outrage + Optimism, and others. Bruce is a TED fellow, American Food Hero (EatingWell Magazine 2021), and popular speaker about food technology. Bruce’s 2019 TED talk has been viewed more than 2.3 million times and translated into 30 languages. Bruce graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown Law and also holds degrees from Johns Hopkins University and the London School of Economics. |



| Andile Mnguni is a South African serial Social Entrepreneur and Champion for agrifood systems transformation and climate resilience, dedicated to bridging the gap between environmental sustainability and social equity. She founded ROAR South Africa which led her start The Source, which pioneers sustainable circular economies that prioritise food security, regenerative agriculture, and community empowerment across vulnerable African communities. Through her work, Andile fosters localised solutions that are adaptable to the diverse challenges faced by communities across Africa, aiming to build resilient systems that give back more than they take. Andile serves as a Board Director at We Are Family Foundation, as well as, a Youth Policy Board Member for the United Nations FAO’s World Food Forum, where she advocates for youth engagement in food systems policy and dialogues. She served on the COP28 Food Systems Non-State Actors Committee and plays an instrumental role in advancing the youth voice in global policy spaces. She has been recognised as Africa’s Brightest Young Mind by the UN World Food Programme. |



| In 2022, David Nicholson was named the first-ever Chief Climate Officer at Mercy Corps. In this role, he leads the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to integrate bold climate action into all facets of Mercy Corps operations and programming. Over his 12 years at Mercy Corps, David has been instrumental in the organization’s transformation into a sustainability leader. He draws on his diverse background spanning carbon-finance project development in Uganda, climate and energy consulting at DAI, and green business program development in Colombia to help Mercy Corps partner with communities to build long-term climate resilience. In 2023, Mercy Corps reached 5.9 million people through its climate-related work, and through their campaign Climate: Possible, aim to reach 12.5 million people with climate-smart solutions and 20 million people by high-impact climate startups. David has a BSc in Business Management from the University of Southampton in the UK, and an MA in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University, MA. |



| Dennis Rangi is currently the Director General – Development at CABI. In his role, he is responsible for blending strategic vision with practical implementation and ensures growth across the organization’s global themes. He has over 30 years of experience in development cooperation including implementation and management of scientific research. He has fulfilled several assignments in developing countries and has a strong understanding of their circumstances and needs. He has been involved in a wide range of institutional change activities as well as capacity building to address issues pertaining to sustainable development with a strong interest in South-South cooperation. He holds a BSc in Biological Sciences, MBA in Corporate Strategy and a PhD in Enterprise Development (PPPs and the development of smallholder agricultural SMEs). He is an accredited Executive Coach (AoEC) and is an alumnus of Strathmore (Nairobi) and IESE (Barcelona) Business Schools. He was previously the Chairman of the Global Invasives Species Programme based in South Africa and currently sits on the global board of the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) based in Costa Rica and the Kenya Vaccine Initiative (BioVax Ltd) based in Kenya. |



Passionate about entrepreneurship, Dorothea began her career as Marketing Director at start-up Kelkoo, playing a key part in making the platform Europe’s leading shopping search engine. Before joining Hand in Hand International, she managed sales and communications teams at companies including Yahoo, Shell and PwC, and transitioned to not-for profit at the British Red Cross. She joined Hand in Hand in 2013.



| Dr Dipayan Dey is an environmental biotechnologist with thirty years of comprehensive experience in locally-led adaptation and sustainable climate initiatives in South Asian ecoregion. He has successfully led collaborative action-research with several UN Organizations, World Bank, GIZ, IUCN, USAID etc. towards conservation planning and responsible resource management at community-ecosystem interface in the climate milieu. Presently, he is working as Chair in South Asian Forum for Environment [SAFE], a major stakeholder in UN Environment and he holds joint positions of Senior Scientific Consultant in Indian Institute of Technology, Madras India pioneering climate resilient agro-technology and as well he serves Global Food Alliance for Future of Food as international facilitator for cohort members. He is a member to International Committee of ISO standards on Climate Change and GHG emissions and also several other organizations worldwide. He has more than 50 publications and a number of international awards to his credential. |



| Dr. Alexander Schmidt is Head of Science, Sustainability, and Climate Research at Normative, the enterprise carbon platform to see emissions, plan reductions, and achieve net zero. Before joining Normative, Alexander worked as a consultant and entrepreneur in the field of data science and artificial intelligence. He holds a PhD in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics, obtained after completing his studies in International Business and East Asian studies in Germany, China, and Japan. In addition to his work at Normative, Alexander gives university lectures in econometrics and sustainability and co-hosts the Net-Zero Policy Network with Oxford Net Zero. He acts as the Private Sector Program Lead for the Mobilizing an Earth Governance Alliance and regularly speaks at international conferences organized by the UN – including COP – and at institutions such as Oxford University and Deloitte. |
