Breakthrough Interview: Investing in Nature
11:30 – 11:45
The discussion will focus on the pioneering Temperate Rainforest Restoration Programme – a £38 million, long-term carbon sequestration partnership between Aviva and The Wildlife Trusts to restore and reconnect the remaining fragments of temperate rainforest across the British Isles and to remove an estimated 800,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
The programme turns the traditional ‘transactional’ model on its head, with Aviva investing in woodland carbon removals for future, not current, emissions and delivering a range of wider co-benefits and nature-based solutions at the same time. New rainforest sites provide authentic additionality and are being seen as a win for conservation, as well as being important hubs for collaboration. The programme meets multiple environmental, social and good governance goals, including biodiversity improvements, climate change adaptation, improved flood resilience and community benefits.
The conversation will showcase how this programme was created, the benefits it delivers for both Aviva and The Wildlife Trusts, as well as touching on what high integrity carbon removals looks like in the UK.
