About this event

S&P Global is leading a new study called “Copper in the Age of AI” that assesses the strategic importance of copper amid surging global demand despite a widening supply gap. As the world is expected to see an 80% increase in electricity demand by 2050, copper’s role in electrification and electric vehicle and renewables production is vital.
With Big Tech’s projected $400 billion investment in data centers in 2025, and rising global defense budgets, copper’s importance in securing copper supply cannot be overstated. Still, limited discoveries, permitting challenges, and processing bottlenecks continue to constrain copper supply growth.
This event will highlight copper’s pivotal role in both delivering on the promise of AI and fueling the energy transition. We will explore how COP30 could address investment and innovation challenges in mining and recycling. The discussion will provide strategic insights for policymakers and industry leaders to navigate the copper supply gap and foster a resilient, sustainable economy.
